Profile:
With her superior type, noble elegance, stellar structure, thin, vascular, jet black skin, a radiant silky coat and overall dryness, Hekla could very well have just been taken directly from the desert sands of Arabia or out of the majestic paintings of horses imported to Poland hundreds of years ago, which formed the foundation of the breed in our country in the 18th and 19th century. Phenotypically she epitomizes the Arabian mare, emanating ideal feminine charm and maternal confidence with a long, exotically clean, nobly carried neck and an exquisitely refined, exotically dished head with large luminous eyes, a small tapering muzzle, ideal proportion and small beautifully designed ears. Hekla is very much a true representative of her “H” damline of revered broodmares stemming from the family foundress HARMONIA, whose descendants include both hardy athletes, as well as champions of the show arena. This accomplished roster lists European, Polish National, Swedish Champion Stallion HARACZ, Polish National Champion Stallion, Bełżyce Reserve Champion Stallion HARBIN, Gieboldehausen Champion Mare HABENDA, All Scandinavian Reserve Champion Mare HULANKA, US Region I & III Champion Stallion and US Region II Reserve Champion Stallion HUN, Polish Nationals class winner HEROLDIA, Junior Spring Show class winner HERLINA and stake winners: again HARBIN (holder of an impressive race record with 17 money earning finishes from 18 starts, including wins in the Piechur St. & Wielki Szlem St. and placing second in the Derby, Kabaret St., Arabian Produce – Janów Podlaski St. & Michałów St.), HEBRON (Piechur St. & Arabian Produce – Janów Podlaski St.), HARBINA (Sasanka St.) & HARMIDER (Bask St.). Through HARMONIA Hekla can further lay claim to the larger clan of BAŁAŁAJKA, dam of US-epochal sire BASK, Janów Podlaski matron supreme BANDOLA (from whom descend such luminaries as BANDOS, BANAT & BALON) and her full sister ARFA, who in turn began the hugely meritorious “A” family with notable names such as chief sires ARGOS, ALMIFAR, ARIEL, ARRAGON, ARMANIAK & ARBIL, French & Salon du Cheval Champion Stallion ARBOR, Polish National Champion Stallion ARGO, Polish National Champion Stallion ARARAT, Austrian Champion Stallion ARRAS, European & Polish National Champion Mare and racing’s Triple Crown holder ARRA, Polish National Reserve Champion Mare ARGENTYNA, Czech Reserve Champion Mare ARIS & All Nations Cup Champion Mare ALDARA. Hekla’s sire is the Swedish Champion Stallion PRIMO. As a son of the Polish-bred Salon du Cheval Champion Stallion (considered at that time the European & World Championships) ENGANO, PRIMO’s task was to reincorporate the blood of his valuable sire into the Polish herd, which among others resulted in Polish National Champion Colt ESCULAP & twice Swedish Champion Mare POLIFONIA. Look to Hekla, the snow alabaster beauty, to continue the grand tradition of her legendary ancestors.
