 MICHAŁÓW STUD

Michałów State Stud has been breeding purebred Arabian horses for more then fifty five years. With over 100 broodmares and 400 Arabians at the stud, Michałów is the largest Arabian facility in Poland, and is considered one of the largest and most prestigious farms in Europe, not to mention the entire globe. At present, Michałów still operates as a subsidiary of the Agriculture Property Agency of the State Treasury in Warsaw.
Michałów is situated in the Holy Cross Mountain (Świętokrzyskie) province of Poland, nestled in a beautiful and bountiful region known as "Ponidzie", between the well-known Pińczów and Wodzisław glacial crests. Just 45 km south of Kielce, 230 km south of Warsaw and 100 km north of Kraków, Michałów lies within the crux of authentic "Old Poland" - the ancient capital of Wiślica is found just 25 km to the northeast of the stud, where civilization thrived under Christian rule a century before Mieszko I was crowned as the first Polish King in 966.

Michałów is well known for the Stud's characteristic white stone stables, built in 1960's from limestone quarried in nearby Pińczów. Built together in a compact, well-designed unit, these stables are ideally suited for horse breeding.
As a result of its unique valley location, Michałów enjoys a very specific microclimate, with low annual rainfall, shallow topsoil, high soil calcium levels and dry, arid conditions perfect for the maturation of hay and pasture - in other words, as near as authentic desert conditions as is possible in Europe for raising Arabian horses. Michałów also breeds rare Appaloosa (leopard)-patterned Małopolska sporthorses, as well as a small group of Shetland ponies.

 BIAŁKA STUD

Białka Stallion Depot was founded on 1st of July 1930. Since 1982 Arabian Horses breeding is one of the most important field of its activity. "Horses first of all" - this is the main idea of all Białka stuff. Seven nice and comfortable stables are home for almost 250 horses, including ca 25 Arabian broodmares.

Very dry, typical continental climate and sappy pastures make the wonderful conditions for horse breeding, especially for oriental type - Arabians and Anglo-Arabians. Beautiful landscape with woods, forests, fields, hillocks and fresh, limpid air are a big advantage in our industry world. At Białka Stud you can spend unforgettable time. Tourist standard hotel, camping, roof-manage, paddocks, friendly people and of course wonderful horses are waiting here for horse ride lovers all over the year. Members of Polish National Three Day Event as well as Endurance Team compete successfully in colours of Białka Sport Club.

The stock of the youngest of Polish Arabian State Studs was completed by broodmares out of three other Studs: Janów Podlaski, Michałów and Kurozwęki. Up to date Białka has proved its breeding potential and today the Stud can be proud because of its own breeding successes.

 JANÓW PODLASKI STUD

The Janów Podlaski Stud, the oldest state owned and operated horse stud in Poland, is also one of the most beautiful. Despite the name, the stud is situated two kilometres from Janów itself, in a village called Wygoda. Picturesquely set amidst lush meadows along the border river Bug, Janów Podlaski is undeniably a true "equine paradise". Although the breeding of purebred Arabians has been primarily responsible for Janów Podlaski's fame worldwide, the Stud's many achievements within the realm of Anglo-Arabian breeding are also worthy of recognition and notoreity. A big attraction is the 19th Century stable complex situated in an old park. The oldest of these, the Clock Stable ("Zegarowa") and the Main Stallion Stable ("Czolowa") stemming from 1841 and 1845 respectively are the works of the famous architect Henryk Marconi.

OPEN DAYS AT THE STATE STUDS

After the excitement of Polish Nationals and the Pride of Poland Auction, the tour of the State Studs is a welcome respite. The tradition of excellence that defines Poland is most fully realized during the Breeding Parades at each of the State Studs. The depth and breadth of quality within the broodmare bands is truly astounding – to enjoy generations of success in one visit is the privilege of a lifetime. Walking amongst the mares and foals, reaching out to stroke an admired stallion, turning the corner in the spacious, improbably peaceful stables to discover a beloved old friend or a “take–your–breath-away” icon, the omniscient serenity in the soft dark eyes of the venerated matron, the effervescent energy of the young filly with a destiny of greatness to fulfill – these are the moments that forever change you, moments that inspire you to be and to do more...
